Character History Part 2: A Tin Can in Space
One day, Ladon found himself on the space station Sacrosanct, stumbling out of the junk yard and into the small community of outcasts from various worlds. Having lived in a world where movies with actual voice tracks were the newest thing and the advent of an operable automobile was less than ten years old, he was far out of his element. Thankfully, despite his prickly demeanor and culture shock, Ladon made friends. With them he went through numerous events, including singing mushroom spores, forced social functions (under threat of airlock ejection), attacks on his safety and those around him, spacial and time anomalies, and a blue goo that turned him into a mindless space monster for a week.
Ladon coped with his time on Sacrosanct by occupying himself with running a jazz club, named the Silver Apple after his Golden Apple club back in Nieve. He spent most his time there, either serving up drinks or typical tavern foods. He adopted a stray dog, hired a waitress, and kept abreast of the goings on in the station. While he endured some strange and often dangerous circumstances, what affected Ladon the most during his time on Sacrosanct was the relationships he'd built with the people there. Ladon grew up with a very large, communal family, and when he took off to the city, his cousin and friend came with him. Ladon had never been truly alone before in his life, and being on the station meant he had to make friends, something he'd never been too terribly good at.
Ladon befriended a fellow dragon named Jin, though their relationship was rocky at best. Jin's own emotional and personal issues meant that he viewed Ladon as a superior more than an ally. Ladon didn't help this perception with how abrasive and bossy he acted. The two of them bounced back and forth between uneasy friendship and unhealthy superior/inferior roles. Jin was the closest Ladon had to a clutchmate, and thus Ladon never completely washed his hands of Jin, no matter how much the other dragon frustrated him. The AI that ran the station, Hypatia, publicly tortured and de-winged Jin after he attempted to find a way home through the Rift. Ladon did his best to be supportive and protective of Jin afterwards, but their relationship suffered. When Ladon vanished, Jin was still struggling to recover from the trauma.
Ladon also became close to October "Toby" Daye, a half-fae changeling woman who offered to help him out at his bar. The two spent a lot of time alone together at the Silver Apple when business was slow, and despite himself, Ladon started to get attached to Toby. Assumptions flew about that the two of them were involved romantically, but the relationship never moved past a close friendship. Ladon admitted he had feelings for her, but was too afraid of chasing her away to say anything. Still, whenever Toby needed someone or was in danger, he dropped everything for her. She did the same for him, which put her in danger quite a few times, including the Phazon outbreak that turned him into a monster behind the sealed door she'd spoken to him through. Toby returned to her world before Ladon could work up the courage to tell her how he felt about her. He fled to one of the mountain zones on Sacrosanct to hide in one of the caves afterward, and was whisked away by the teleporters back to Nieve before he could return.
Ladon had various other relationships, including a pseudo-parental one towards Jade Harley, a brotherly devotion to Cathy Barrett, a friendship-slash-rivalry with a shape-shifter, and casual friendships with just about everyone who came to his bar. By the time he left the station, he'd left an impression behind. In total, he was in Sacrosanct for close to a year, and while he didn't endure any lasting physical changes, he underwent a few emotional changes, including learning how to make friends, dealing with being out of his element, trusting outside his small circle of confidants, and that he's pretty much a hopeless failure on the romantic front.
